What is EN54-29 for Multi-sensor Smoke and Heat Detector

The European standard of EN54-29 defines the requirement, performance criteria & test methods of multi-sensor fire detectors. This combination alarm requirement was first published in 2015, which aims to maintain quality detectors on the market that is capable of response to wide ranges of fire & high stability.

In general, this standard is a mix of EN54-5 and EN54-7 for heat detector & smoke detector respectively.

Some of the main tests include:

  • Alarm indication
  • Slow Developing fire response
  • Directional smoke & heat response
  • IP rating
  • Operational reliability
  • Tolerance
  • Fire sensitivity
  • Temperature resistance
  • Shock and vibration resistance
  • Chemical resistance
  • Electrical stability

For the fire tests, it is conducted in the fire test room wit various conditions such as below:

  • Open wood fire (TF1)
  • Smouldering (pyrolysis) wood fire (TF2)
  • Glowing smouldering cotton fire (TF3)
  • Open plastics (polyurethane) fire (TF4)
  • Liquid heptane fire (TF5)
